Music Rehearsal Skills

Lesson 1

How I prepared for today's rehearsal:  I listened to a playlist of different songs so that we could decide on what we wanted to do and what genre and style we wanted. I also communicated with my new group to make sure we were all on the same page when it came to the first rehearsal!

What I set out to achieve today:  discuss within the group what style genre and artists we wanted to follow when making the music! I personally wanted to try to stay focused by not drifting off task from what we needed to do as a group!

How I was successful today:  I put a lot of effort and input into the discussion about what music we wanted to choose and helped to the group to come up with a few options within the pre-arranged genre choices. I also started to find the lyrics for the songs we wanted to do as it was decide that I would be the vocalist of the group
Targets for next rehearsal:  for the next rehearsal I would like to improve on the decisions we made and edit the choices that we made slightly because some of them didn’t suit what we as a group wanted to go with.

Lesson 2

Lesson 4

How I prepared for today's rehearsal:  For this rehearsal I made sure we were all connected and were agreed in the first songs we wanted to start to rehearse by talking to the individual members of the group! I also listened to a range of songs in the chosen genres and style to try and find more songs we could do for the set.

What I set out to achieve today:  Today I decide to focus on deciding what we wanted to do as far as rehearsing went, I did this by further discussing what instruments everyone wanted to play and what they wanted to do in the different songs. We also talked about what parts we could rehearse outside of the lessons.

How I was successful today:  In this rehearsal I helped everyone to agree on what they wanted to do in future rehearsals while simultaneously rehearsing the vocals for the first two songs we decide. We were also able to out the song together as a group with Owen on the drums, James playing guitar and me singing.

Targets for next rehearsal:  Next lesson we have all decided to knuckle down and rehearse fully while we discuss the other songs we want to do for the rest of the set to make sure it is up to standards!

Lesson 5

How I prepared for today's rehearsal:  For this lesson I talked to all the members of the group about other things we could all do in different songs, for example changing instruments because we can all play more than one each so we can demonstrate all of our skills which won’t just improve our musical ability but help us to achieve higher grades

What I set out to achieve today:  I set out to act on the pre lesson ideas about changing the instruments for different songs so that we could demonstrate originality and show how we can adapt to different styles while still keeping the quality we would have if we only focused on one style genre and idea.

How I was successful today: Today we were able to change up what we were doing and still make sure we still kept everything together and we believed it sounded good as we were rehearsing it so we decided to stick with the idea as it felt that it would be a good thing to add into what we were doing because it showed how well we could orchestrate new ideas and adapt to them.

Targets for next rehearsal:  For the next rehearsal I want to have a group discussion about where we wanted to go with what we were doing so that we had some stability in what we were doing.

Lesson 6

How I prepared for today's rehearsal:  For this rehearsal I brainstormed with what we could do with the group and discussed how we would improve on what we already had so that we could perform to a higher standard.

What I set out to achieve today:  Today I set out to make sure that we had a good session and to make sure that we were all including myself on task so that we could rehearse better and make more progress during the rehearsal time!

How I was successful today:  I feel we all improved on how we did during the rehearsals so that we could improve on the songs we decided. I also made sure that we were rehearsing to our full ability so we could get the maximum out of the time.

Targets for next rehearsal: For the next rehearsal I would like us to focus on individual improvement so that we can further our progress as a group to make sure we achieve all we want.

Lesson 7

How I prepared for today's rehearsal:  For this rehearsal I talked to the group about future things to focus on so that we all knew what we wanted to do to avoid confusion in the rehearsals.

What I set out to achieve today:  keeping focused and no drifting away with different ideas and staying on track so that we could make the most progress!

How I was successful today: we all rehearsed well as a team and made sure we were all focused and on tasked so that we could make progress well!

Next rehearsal: do more rehearsals and improve the songs by keeping together when one of us makes a mistake so that we can assure improvement when we rehearse.

Lesson 8

How I prepared for today's lesson: For this lesson I researched the lyrics for the songs so that there would be fewer mistakes in our rehearsals meaning there would be more progress and less time wasted looking up lyrics and songs in the lesson.

What I set out to achieve today:  Today I set out to improve on the organisation of our rehearsals so that they would be of a better standard and that we would have more time doing straight rehearsing rather than worrying about all the little things that could be sorted outside the lesson instead of inside using precious time we could have to rehearse and improve our performance.

How I was successful today:  Today was a success for us as a group as we were able to greatly improve the time we spent rehearsing as a result of our preparations beforehand and because of the attendance of all the group members.

Lesson 9

How I prepared for today's lesson: For this lesson I made sure everyone knew what they were doing in the group so that we would be able to set up and get going quickly and keep the rehearsal running efficiently.

What I set out to achieve today: Today I set out to have a good rehearsal with everyone making some sort of progress either as a group or individually so by the time it comes to perform we will be ready to do so to our highest potential.

How I was successful today: We managed to have a good rehearsal despite some factors slowing down the rate of productivity. During the rehearsal we made some progress towards where we want to go and overall was a good Lesson.

Lesson 10

How I prepared for today's lesson: For this lesson I planned to carry on form the previous day as it had been a good productive lesson in which we made good steady progress because of this we didn't see we needed to make any changes to what we were doing so we kept it all the same.

What I set out to achieve today: Today we set out to achieve another steady rehearsal so we could continue to make progress and keep the workload up

How I was successful today: Again we managed to make more progress than usual keeping up the productive atmosphere helping us to continue on with the rehearsals so we could maximise the time we spent rehearsing instead of setting everything up and mucking around for half the lesson and only getting 15 minutes of actual rehearse time.

Lesson 11

How I prepared for today's lesson: for today's lesson I discussed with the other members of the group about rehearsals outside of the lesson so we might be able to increase what we are doing and make more progress and increase the amount of work we get through in a week.

What I set out to achieve today: For this lesson we made a point of getting the equipment ready in the fastest time possible so we could rehearse more during the lesson so we could improve vastly and quickly by emphasising the importance of a quick setup we were able to squeeze more time out of the lesson for rehearsals.

How was I successful today: Today we were able to get more rehearsal time from the lesson as we decreased the amount of time it normally takes us to set up. We did this by not talking whilst setting up and kept messing around to a minimum.

Lesson 12

How I prepared for today's lesson:   For today i made sure that i knew the lyrics for the songs that we were doing so that we could rehearse with nothing slowing us down meaning we could make more progress and improve our overall performance and increase our experience with the songs.

What i set out to achieve today: Today I set out to achieve a good rehearsal for all of our group that we could take to the next lesson on the first of December and keep what we were doing without slowing down the next day.

How i was successful today:   Today we were able to have a good rehearsal because of the changes we had made in the lessons prior meaning we could maximise the work that we were doing and keep it to the best of our ability so that we could make sure we were moving ion the right direction.

Lesson 13

How I prepared for today's lesson; for this lesson we again continued the talks about extra rehearsals and when we would all be able to do them as a group.

What I set out to achieve: Today I set out to improve on individual parts of at least one of our songs to make sure that all parts of the songs we are doing are of a good standard.

How I was successful today: Today we improved on our songs and overall made quite a lot of progress towards what we want to eventually have.

Lesson 14

How I prepared for today's lesson: For today's lesson we discussed other things that we could improve so we had a decent idea of what we were going to do in this lesson.

What I set out to achieve: Today we wanted to continue improving on little things on our performance that will boost our performance.

How I was successful today: Today we made more small improvements on our songs. We went into detail on small things to refine our performance.

Lesson 15

How i prepared for today's lesson: For this lesson we decided to try and improve our individual performance so that we would be able to add more to our songs to make them overall better.

What i set out to achieve:  We set out to overall better ourselves and improve our individual performances

How i was successful today: Today we all improved on our personal performances that we will be able to put together and improve everything overall.

Lesson 16

How i prepared for today's lesson: Today we discussed help from sir so we can continue to improve on the small parts of our performance, to do this we talked extensively about all aspects our performance to ensure we made maximum progress. The songs we decided to work on in this rehearsal was Wonderwall,

What i set out to achieve: Today we set out to improve wonderwall so it could reach it's maximum potential and be a good strong opening for our set, we wanted to make sure the start of our performance would reflect on how the rest would be and the hard work we put in would emerge into a great song and eventually an overall great set 

How i was successful today: Today we were successful in improving wonderwall however we feel we should have got onto another song. It was an okay session however could be improved greatly in the future.


Lesson 17

How I prepared for todays lesson: For this lesson we started to ensure all the chords we were using were correct and went with the songs we were doing. We did this to make sure we were rehearsing the correct chords. We found the almost all of the ones we were using were correct however we had to change a few

What I set out to achieve: In this lesson I set out to improve the sound of our performance by switching to all the correct chords to allow us to get the best sound possible from our instrument.


Lesson 18

What went well in this lesson: Today we worked on breaking down certain parts of our songs so could fine tune them and complete them to an acceptable standard. We also all increased our volume steadily so we would be used to projecting more whilst performing. This lesson allowed us to improve our music and develop our skills.

Target for next lesson:For the next lesson as a group we ave decided we want to work on fixing some minor issues with some of the verses and choruses and we would like to fix as many small parts to our songs as possible in the coming lessons.

Lesson 19

What went well in this lesson: In this lesson we chose which key and what chords we would be using for the final performance, we decided on some slightly higher chords so it suited the rest of the sounds the best and went the best with my voice. This lesson allowed us to move on with what we wanted to do next quite quickly because we completed our target easily and very fast.

Target for next lesson: For the next lesson we would like to rehearse i hate you i love you more because it isn't quite finished and definitely not perfected. I think it would be beneficial to spend the majority of the lesson on this next time for maximum progress.

Lesson 20

What went well in this lesson: Today we started by played i hate you I love you the whole way through because we wanted to find out exactly what needed fine-tuning and fixing. We found that Jake and James sometimes didn't come back in at the same time so we played along to the actual song to see what the correct timing was then we integrated that tpo our rendition.

Target for next lesson: For the next couple of lessons we would like to carry on playing I hate you I love you so we can iron out the rest of the song and make sure it is being perfected and sounds professional.

Lesson 21

What went well in this lesson: In this lesson we started of again playing i hate you i love you to see where we were with completion on the song. In the lesson it was decided that we should get someone else to try and help us improve. We asked the teacher who listened to us play it and he said that it had become a lot more flowing and natural than the previous performances. He also told us that it would be beneficial to work on our stage presence to capture the audience and to seem more professional.

Target for next lesson: For the next lesson we would like to continue our practices and work on our stage presence so we come across more confident and professional.

Lesson 22

What went well in this lesson: Today was successful because we were able to play through i hate you i love you and realise what was wrong with it, the tempo we were playing wasn't the correct one for the chords meaning we were all out of time.

Target for next lesson: For next lesson we want to go through our whole set to see what order we are going to put the songs in.

Lesson 23

What went well this lesson: This lesson went well because we were able to sort out some of the issues with ib hate you i love you. After this we went through most of our set and decided what order we would be doing the songs in. 

Target for next lesson: Play through the whole set again ans see exactly what needs doing to the overall product.

Lesson 24

What went well this lesson: Today was successful because we were able to play through our whole set with hardly mistakes and stoppages
